Fur Boots
Fur boots may be completely covered in fur or simply trimmed
with it. Fur is believed to be one of the first materials used for the
creation of clothing. Mink, ermine, rabbit, chinchilla, and fox are
just a few of the common animals used for these items.
Many people feel that fur boots are inhumane purchases. This is because
the animals bred to create such items are often raised is very poor
environments. Cramped cages are very common, as well as the use of hormones
to encourage breeding. Neck-breaking, electrocution, and gassing have
been standard ways of killing animals for the use of their pelts in
these environments.
Fur boots may also be created from synthetics, luckily. These faux
fur items offer the added benefits of total selectivity for thickness.
They also take much less energy to create. However, it is important
to ensure that fake fur products are purchased from a reliable source.
In February of 2007, the Human Society discovered that 24 out of 25
jackets that were advertised as faux fur actually included hair of the
raccoon dog.
