Work Boots
Work boots come in many different styles to suit many
different trades. Different jobs often have different safety and functionality
needs which will affect both material and structural choices. This is
especially true of occupations that involve interactions with different
climates and environments.
Many different types of work boots have reinforcements in the toe area.
These are designed to protect the toes from falling and piercing objects.
Steel was the traditional material used for this element, leading to
the term “steel-toe boots.” However, other choices have
been used, such as thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) or different composite
materials.
Australian work boots are another unique style which makes use of elastic
sides. These include pull tabs for easy removal. While these are ideal
for continual entering and exiting of hazardous environments, they are
not good options for activities such as motorcycle riding. This is because
they can easily be lost in the event of a crash as well as potentially
be the cause of one.
